Little Oblivions
Indies exclusive LP is on 'golden yellow' coloured vinyl. We have a few Flexi-disc 7"s of Hardline which will be given out at random to any who pre-orders before 20th Feb. The highly anticipated third full length album from the shop-visitor Julien Baker. Following on from Turn Out The Lights, that landed high up on our top albums of 2017 list. Offering another dose of her spellbinding, atmospheric and cathartic songwriting whilst pushing into new territory and incorporating more instrumentation than we've previously heard. Little Oblivions is the third studio album by Julien Baker. Recorded in Memphis, TN, the record weaves together unflinching autobiography with assimilated experience and hard-won observations from the past few years, taking Baker’s capacity for storytelling to new heights. It also marks a sonic shift, with the songwriter’s intimate piano and guitar arrangements newly enriched by bass, drums, keyboards, banjo, and mandolin with nearly all of the instruments performed by Baker.

Turn Out The Lights
The critically acclaimed second studio album from the rapidly rising emo-influenced singer-songwriter Julien Baker. She plays highly haunting, heartbreaking, atmospheric and emotionally-charged tunes that are built on layers, confessional lyrics and moments of catharsis. She's rooted herself firmly in the emo/punk/hardcore world having featured on Touche Amore's 2016 album, supported Paramore and Brand New have been covering her songs at their shows, but if you're into the likes of early Laura Marling, The National, Conor Oberst or Deathcab For Cutie then this is one to get on your radar.Recorded at the legendary Ardent Studios in Baker’s hometown of Memphis, TN, Turn Out The Lights expands upon the sound and vision of Sprained Ankle while retaining the haunting, confessional songwriting style for which she has become known. Throughout the album, Baker reflects on experiences of her own and those closest to her, exploring the internal conflicts that wrestle inside us all: how we deal and cope with our struggles, and how it all impacts both ourselves and our relationships of all kinds. The result is a deeply empathetic album that embraces the grays and complex truths of humanity and mental health. Turn Out The Lights was written and produced by Baker, and mixed by Craig Silvey (The National, Arcade Fire, Florence & the Machine).

Torres / Julien Baker
Tuesday 18th March
at St John's Church, 7:00pm (14+)
Admission will be via e-ticket. Your e-ticket will be delivered to your email address in time for the show (typically the day before the event). To celebrate the release of 'Send A Prayer My Way', Julien Baker & Torres visit Kingston to play an acoustic set at St John's Church. After dropping hints for months and following the release of their first single "Sugar in the Tank,” Julien Baker & TORRES are excited to announce the April 18 release of their debut album Send a Prayer My Way. The album has been in the works since the two played their first show together in 2016 and at the end one singer turned to the other and said, “You know, we should make a country album.” This is the origin story, the stuff of legend in the world of country music, and the beginning of a collaboration between two artists already admired for their spare, elegant lyrics as well as the courage to share their struggles with those who love their music. It’s also the beginning of creating a work that, like the most enduring country albums, sustains and inspires, reminding both singer and listener that not one of us is ever totally alone in this world, that music is a steady companion. Julien Baker & TORRES’ Send A Prayer My Way was written and sung in the best of the outlaw tradition - defiant, subversive, working class, and determined to wrestle not only with addiction, regret and bad decisions, but also with oppressive systems of power. Mercifully, this is only the beginning of the stories TORRES and Baker are determined to tell. Because these are also songs about radical empathy and second chances, and third chances, and while there’s plenty of struggle and regret in here, there’s also humor and defiance.-Times confirmed as doors at 7pm with a stage time of 8pmThose aged 14+ can attend unaccompanied. 8 to 13 year olds must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult (18+). No under 8s, sorry.St John the Evangelist, Grove Lane, Kingston upon Thames, KT1 2SU
