Lee Perry & The Upsetters
Soul Fire
An artist gifted with brilliant yet revolutionary ideas often finds himself embarking on a road beset with frustration and emotional turmoil. Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry is such a man. Hailed as a wayward genius from his earliest days, he pioneered many of the recording techniques which underpinned the Jamaican reggae movement that shocked, and then enchanted the music world. A powerful presence and a remarkable personality, ‘Scratch’ would become famed for his creative influence on many charismatic performers who became international stars. Let’s celebrate his musical achievements through the medium of this double LP, packed with extraordinary performances. Welcome to a world of hypnotic themes, haunting vocals, strange effects and crafty rhythms.

Double Seven
LP on 180g 'silver' coloured vinyl. This classic album from 1973 saw its creator, Lee 'Scratch' Perry exploring synths and starting to develop his Black Ark sound - the enigmatic producer was at the time in the process of building his famous studio and honing his ideas about dub as a musical form. The LP opens with the eerie “Kentucky Skank”, Perry's ode to KFC, complete with frying chicken sounds, spliced between winding tapes, a ghostly trumpet, and futuristic moog synthesizer, overdubbed at London's Chalk Farm studios.U Roy's “Double Six” and I Roy's “High Fashion” & “Hail Stones” illustrate just how strong The Upsetter's deejay material had become, while versions of the Chi-Lites' “We Are Neighbours”, Sam & Dave's “Soul Man” and a re-working of Al Green's “Love and Happiness” (retitled “Jungle Lion”) all betray the funky soul influence that was increasingly shaping his work. The backing tracks illustrate the producer at his best; the audio spectrum is fully differentiated while spatial placement an important component - something it would take years for him to achieve at the Black Ark.Double Seven is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on silver coloured vinyl.

Mr Perry I Presume
Expected 9th October A new collection of Lee Perry productions on CD and Double LP. It ranges from remixes of classics to obscure songs never properly released. Mr. Perry I presume kicks off with the over looked 12’ version of George Faiths ‘Don’t be afraid’. Left off the classic ‘Super 8’ LP that George Faith recorded at the Black Ark. It’s slightly rougher around the edges than most of the material on that album. There’s Perry returning to ‘Words’ – that is also featured in accapella style. But it’s best to let the tracks speak of a creative mind in full flow. The album comes with an unusual cover photo that was taken by the actress Nathalie Delon (then partner of actor Alain Delon) who was on a visit to the Black Ark studios in the mid 1970s. The sleeve notes by Jeremy Collingwood focus on the UK sound system scene that Perry had become such an integral part of. His trips to the UK were frequent and he was amongst the small group of Jamaican producers that pioneered the development of Jamaican music in the UK. These trips were both profitable (cutting dub plates) and useful for picking up musical ideas to take back to Jamaica. Most of the material on Mr. Perry I presume is previously unreleased. An excellent addition to the previous Lee Perry albums on Pressure Sounds. As we continue to plug the gaps of one of the most innovative producers in popular music

Roast Fish Collie Weed and Cornbread
LP on 180g 'orange' coloured vinyl. LP on 180g black vinyl. Roast Fish Collie Weed and Corn Bread is a studio album by Jamaican reggae legend Lee “Scratch” Perry, released in 1978. Although Perry had been in the Jamaican music business for a long time by 1978, this album, produced by himself at his Black Ark Studio, was the first album he released that only included songs sung by himself.
