To celebrate the release of the new My Life Story album 'Loving You Is Killing Me', Jake Shillingford returns to Kingston to play an in-store set.Loving You Is Killing Me’ was mixed by Ben Hillier who produced two Depeche Mode Albums as well as working with Blur, Patrick Wolf, Nadine Shah and Peter Perrett. It features original artwork by the brilliant Scot Greenwell at Darc Artz, woven together by graphic artist supremo Ben Gilbey.Jake said: “This time we wanted to record songs as soon as we’d written them, attempting to instantly capture the spirit and emotion and hermetically sealing in the freshness by releasing them as soon as humanly possible”.“It’s kind of the opposite to a concept album. I didn’t really want to give ourselves time to overthink a grand plan, in some ways we are recapturing the gung-ho spirit of when the band started out in 1985! It’s an eclectic mix of stand-out songs that sing for themselves.”Loving You Is Killing Me’ features this year’s digital only singles: Numb Numb Numb, Tits & Attitude and I’m a God plus seven brand new tracks.-In-store Grade B.Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of 'Loving You is Killing Me' from us. The day their new album is released, My Life Story visits Kingston to play in the shop.
With a string of top 40 hit singles and albums in the 1990s, epic pop pioneers, My Life Story received huge critical acclaim with their brand of grand, orchestral pop, leading many artists of the Britpop era to feature them on their records. Heading up this clever, witty and beautiful wall of sound is the charismatic frontman Jake Shillingford, famous for his sharp tongue and even sharper suits. Vocalist and songwriter Shillingford has cowritten and coproduced the highly anticipated album World Citizen alongside guitarist Nick Evans creating a new and distinctly rockier sound.
World Citizen was composed during the recent chaotic global news landscape where reality as we thought we knew it is constantly being reinvented... In dark times we find safety in what we know and understand. It’s about returning to the sense of the self, the freedom and simplicity of nature and the clarity and honesty of love and union. Ultimately, I’d say the theme of the album is searching for truth in a world full of lies. Even if that’s a personal truth.”
