Feed Me Weird Things
Warp Records is delighted to announce the release of a very special anniversary edition of Squarepusher’s debut album Feed Me Weird Things, virtually 25 years to the day from its original release in ‘96. First released on the now inactive Rephlex label, the album has not been available on streaming platforms until now and has been out of print for more than a decade. It will be reissued on vinyl (2 x 12” 1 x 10” + booklet) and deluxe casebound book CD
This complete edition has been remastered from the original DATs and features two extra tracks which were first released on the B-side of the Squarepusher Plays… EP and later featured on the original Japanese release of this album. The edition also includes a 16 page booklet with personal photographs, ephemera and candid notes from Tom Jenkinson, throwing light on the early days of his career
The release follows Be Up A Hello, Squarepusher’s 2020 album that was filled with buoyant, dancefloor driven tracks which featured some of the same analogue and digital hardware that was used on Feed Me Weird Things. Be Up A Hello was also driven by the same hedonistic energy which is perfectly encapsulated in this pioneering album, the first tracks of which he recorded when he was only 19 years old
Musically, Feed Me Weird Things is more expansive than the electronic sub-genres it was hemmed into at the time, as it was the first release where Tom Jenkinson highlighted his virtuosic bass playing. Like much of his output after, it also showcases disarmingly intricate melodic composition like on ‘Squarepusher Theme’ and extraordinarily complex rhythmic sequences i.e. on ‘Tundra’ whilst retaining an impressive cadence.
The album was a key release for Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) and Grant Wilson-Claridge’s Rephlex label and has gone on to be regarded as one of Squarepusher’s best. As well as a close friendship there was perhaps a bit of healthy competition between Squarepusher and Aphex Twin at the time (Hangable Auto Bulb was released in ‘95 and is cited as an influence). However, strong jazz influences and accomplished bass playing set Tom apart from his contemporaries. Richard curated the track list for Feed Me Weird Things from tapes that Tom had given him and the record includes sleeve notes written by him too, the only time he has done so for another artist
It was on strength of this record and Squarepusher’s early EPs on various labels that caught the attention of Steve Beckett who signed Tom to Warp. The Port Rhombus EP on Warp came out later the same year, with Vic Acid EP and the Hard Normal Daddy album following in 1997.

Lamental EP
The new EP from Squarepusher, following on from their 2020 album Be Up A Hello. Shining a light on the more melodic aspects of ‘Be Up A Hello’, the ‘Lamental’ EP reveals a contemplative side to the music Tom has been making over the last few years. The spacey, squelchy synth techno of ‘The Paris Track’ is a new accelerated interpretation of ‘Detroit People Mover’ which is taken from the album, where it offers a cinematic contrast to the high-octane rave rush of the first four tracks. Originally composed as a response to the EU referendum in 2016, Tom made the score and recorded stems of his beautifully plaintive, wave-like slow roller ‘MIDI Sans Frontières’ available to all, encouraging remixers to participate as a form of “internationalist collaboration with sound makers, irrespective of what kind of music they make, where they live, their background or their age.

Be Up A Hello
After a 5 year hiatus that has seen him delve into a range of diverse musical projects, Squarepusher will return with a long awaited album Be Up A Hello, out on the 31st of January. Fans can enjoy a taster as the double-A side 12” Vortrack will be released on the 6th of December, featuring Squarepusher's Fracture Remix which already caused a stir when it was dropped into his brain-melting breakbeat and jungle set for Warp's 30th anniversary NTS takeover in June.
With this new album, Tom Jenkinson (Squarepusher) has returned to using a bewildering array of vintage analogue and digital hardware, the same equipment that first helped him develop his sound in the early '90s. Something of a 180 degree turn, these synths, effects units and even a Commodore Vic20 are in complete contrast to the tools he used to create 2015’s Damogen Furies - cutting edge software that Tom developed over the course of 15 years. The result is Be Up A Hello, an album that is celebratory with rinsing breakbeat tracks such as Nervelevers and Terminal Slam - classic floor fillers - as well pieces loaded with visceral atmosphere and melody in Squarepusher’s inimitable style. Darker moments such as Vortrack and Mekrev Bass illustrate Tom's continuing fascination with finely balanced psychological overload. As such, Be Up A Hello gives a nod to the mayhem, joyousness and abandon of the DIY Essex rave scene that was a strong determinant in Tom's work.

Ufabulum
Deluxe CD version with bonus 3 track Enstrobia EP in digipack. Ufabulum comes in a 6 panel digipack, with 12 page booklet, printed black with spot gloss UV. In the sixteen years that separate Squarepusher’s debut to his latest delivery, Tom Jenkinson’s music has mostly been fueled by strong fusion jazz currents and massive rave effusions, but whilst these two poles have cohabited, his albums have for the most part been under the dominance of one or the other, never quite the two in equal measures. With its heavy synths lines and playful keyboard washes, Ufabulum clearly belongs to the latter category. Following an excursion as lead-member of Shobaleader One, an enigmatic formation which delivered the somehow crowd-divisive d’Demonstrator two years ago, Jenkinson is back as Squarepusher, and it would appear that his little escapade has done him a world of good.
