After the set, there will be a signing session / meet & greet.‘Living Arrows’ is Chesney at his most vulnerable, completely free of inhibitions or doubts. There is heartache, yes, but there is joy, too, and gratitude for everything he has in life. Combined with his heartfelt, candid style of songwriting, the album’s cohesive pop-rock sound creates what is not only his greatest work to date, but also the most authentic representation of the man behind the artist. The album takes its name from ‘On Children’, a poem by the Lebanese-American writer, poet and artist Kahlil Gibran, which addresses the importance of nurturing children while also accepting that their independence has to be a parent’s ultimate priority.The album was produced and co-written by the BRIT Award winner and Grammy nominee Jake Gosling (Ed Sheeran, One Direction). The friendship between the pair is a big element of the album’s success: it’s a connection that allows Chesney to face the tougher emotions that he explores in some of its songs, but also to enjoy the unbridled fun that he channels in others. Their highly anticipated sophomore album When Youth Fades Away, set for release on March 28, 2025, via Frenchkiss Records. Recorded in the US with by Grammy Award-winner Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Frightened Rabbit), When Youth Fades Away showcases a leap in maturity, both musically and thematically, for the band. Frontman Cian Godfrey describes the album as a reflection on the inevitable process of ageing and the shifting perspectives that come with it. When Youth Fades Away explores a new range of emotional and sonic territory, from the synth-driven experimentation of the title track, to the introspective, stripped-back vulnerability of "Irish Goodbye." Drawing influences from early electronic pioneers Kraftwerk (whose use of technology became a north star for the band) and the personal lyricism of Leonard Cohen, the album is indicative of the band pushing beyond indie rock conventions into new creative ground. The album has been in the works since the two played their first show together in 2016 and at the end one singer turned to the other and said, “You know, we should make a country album.” This is the origin story, the stuff of legend in the world of country music, and the beginning of a collaboration between two artists already admired for their spare, elegant lyrics as well as the courage to share their struggles with those who love their music. Adam F, realising that 'Colours' had found a new audience—partly thanks to artists like PinkPantheress—decided to recreate the album. Instead of simply remastering the tracks, Adam went all in. Over two years, he meticulously reworked the original music, from restoring vintage instruments like his Fender Rhodes piano to enlisting UK jazz legends like Julian Joseph. Vocalists including Kirsty Hawkshaw and the late MC Conrad re-recorded their parts, while new solos from world-class musicians added fresh life to the tracks."Colours holds a special place in my heart because it was not only my first solo album, but also because I had the opportunity to collaborate with diverse talents," says the seminal producer on his ground-breaking album. The two track, forty-two-minute album is his most audacious to date, inspired by the “overview effect” experienced by astronauts looking back at the Earth from space.The Overview sees Wilson return to expansive, progressive music, a genre he helped redefine and repopularise with both his solo and Porcupine Tree releases. The two wildly ambitious tracks are each made up of distinctive musical sections that flow from one to the other, playing out as unique and continuous pieces. In a texturally rich and sonically varied opus, Platt guides us through a journey that is both horrific and beautiful in equal measure. We become silent observers of a night in the life of an ancient midwife (‘Curious Mixtures’), encounter the extraordinary tale of Anne Greene—a woman who survived her own execution and claimed her coffin as a souvenir in ‘Rest in Persistence’. We stand in awe alongside the first seven women to claim their place as doctors in the swampy, Tarantino-esque narrative of ‘The Edinburgh Seven’, and chuckle at the absurd yet infuriating roots of medical misconceptions in ‘The Wandering Womb Ballet’. The past few years have been a wild ride for the artist. Cutting his teeth on the Manchester spoken word scene and gaining notoriety for his seamless flow skewering everything from the hardships of contemporary British life to finding the unexpected beauty in the everyday, it was the 2023 release of his single ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Fallacy’ that kicked off his meteoric ascent. The earworming track soon found its way onto the BBC 6 Music airwaves and led Szmierek to be named an Artist of the Year 2023 by the station. There followed appearances on Later… with Jools Holland, a BBC Radio 1 Maida Vale session, multiple triumphant Glastonbury sets and a flurry of comparisons: to the pavement prose of The Streets, the poetry of John Cooper Clarke if he found himself at the Haçienda, or like Jarvis Cocker for the UK Garage generation. Yet, with the release of his 2023 indie- influenced EP Poems To Dance To and now his banger-filled, dancefloor-focused debut album, Service Station at the End of the Universe, Szmierek cements his sound as one that is distinctly his own. After the release of their debut album Lovecore (2020) and subsequent EP Trust Issues (2021), the trio are back with their sophomore album Bicker; a bright and brilliant collection of songs that combine the glittering bombast of their early work laced with an underlying bittersweet attitude. Recorded with Jack Wilson (Fickle Friends) at his home studio in Shoreham, Bicker has all the hallmarks of a band that have been through a tumultuous few years: releasing their debut album in 2020 at the onset of the pandemic, break-ups, heartbreak, chronic illness, and depression. These themes strikingly play out on Bicker in a similar style to Orchards’ previous work: featuring glorious swathes of infectious choruses and blissful, pastel-hued guitars that balance effortlessly between indie-pop sensibilities and math-rock inspired time signatures. This time around, although the sound is clear-cut, Orchards’ lyrics are anything but. The band are approaching 2025 as a new beginning — with a brand new album, full UK tour and festivals on the horizon — and have proven time and again with a determined attitude that they’re unstoppable.-In-store Grade B.
